How often did your TD go to work in 2019

Based on the member sitting days report from Jan to end of November 2019.

You can get the report here

It is in a PDF format - so the data extraction for the below charts was a pain in the ass.

The below charts capture

  1. what percentage of time a TD attended the Dáil whilst it was in session.
  2. what percentage of the attendance claim was for periods of time outside of the Dáil  being in session
The data can be read in a number of different ways.. I feel if the TD has a low attendance whilst in session and an above average percentage of attendance when it is not in session - it may be indicative of a work Shy TD ... just clocking in when there is no session in an attempt to get those sweet expenses whilst not clocking in when the Dáil is in session and they  might have to do some work... Am I being cynical..

Also - a few things I noticed about the data whilst messing about with it

  1. The Report does not show the total number of sitting days for the period for MEPs.
    • When I set out to manually figure out that number in order to get a percentage of attendance for when the Dail was in session I hit a data wall
    • The calendar for the Dail sitting days for 2018 to 2019 July  is giving a 404 response / access denied.  However  you can still get the calendar for 2019 / 2020 from Sept 2019. This is strangely opaque, I would expect that:
      • A) the total number of sitting days for the period should be included for MEPs - because it would be nice to see what percentage of sitting days they attended whilst they were getting a salary and they had also scored a new job.
      • B) why is it so difficult to get a simple list of all the days the Dail sat for any given period. The data may be somewhere online - I couldn't find it,
  2. it is interesting to note that cabinet members do not appear on the report...
Anyway - the tables are below
