First off we look at the overall gender divisions in overall data set that is all candidates for Election 2020 ( you can toggle between 2016 and 2020 - it defaults to 2016.. i think) Then the below chart shows the breakdown by party. Can you spot the one party with more female than male candidates? Also can we explain the very low number of female candidates in the Independents - if considered as a party or at least as a data set 23 females out of a total 127 candidates... and then we get to gender of candidates by constituency.... seriously what the hell is up with Donegal, Cork-east and Meath West...(shakes head)
Simple.. the table answers the questions This is not about how they voted in the actual referendum, rather this shows the TDs that voted for or against allowing the Irish people decide on such an important issue at the voting booth.. To vote to stop people from having the chance to vote for something that you deem important is seriously undemocratic - no matter what side of the debate you supported.
We took all the data from the Wikipedia pages related to each Dáil ( starting on the 3rd Dáil ( June 1922 ) and going up to the 32nd Dáil ( Feb 2016 ) and only including the results of the general election ( not including changes during the Dáil through by -elections or whatever) . Popped the data into Flourish and see below
