A review of the Gender dynamics for Election 2020

Image
First off we look at the overall gender divisions in overall data set that is all candidates for Election 2020 ( you can toggle between 2016 and 2020 - it defaults to 2016.. i think) Then the below chart shows the breakdown by party.  Can you spot the one party with more female than male candidates? Also can we explain the very low number of female candidates in the Independents - if considered as a party or at least as a data set 23 females out of a total 127 candidates... and then we get to gender of candidates by constituency.... seriously what the hell is up with Donegal, Cork-east and Meath West...(shakes head)

Which TD's voted against giving the electorate the chance to vote in the Abortion Referendum?

Simple.. the table answers the questions This is not about how they voted in the actual referendum,  rather this shows the TDs that voted for or against allowing the Irish people decide on such an important issue at the voting booth.. To vote to stop people from having the chance to vote for something that you deem important is seriously undemocratic - no matter what side of the debate you supported.

How often did your TD go to work in 2019

Based on the member sitting days report from Jan to end of November 2019. You can get the report here It is in a PDF format - so the data extraction for the below charts was a pain in the ass. The below charts capture what percentage of time a TD attended the Dáil whilst it was in session. what percentage of the attendance claim was for periods of time outside of the Dáil  being in session The data can be read in a number of different ways.. I feel if the TD has a low attendance whilst in session and an above average percentage of attendance when it is not in session - it may be indicative of a work Shy TD ... just clocking in when there is no session in an attempt to get those sweet expenses whilst not clocking in when the Dáil is in session and they  might have to do some work... Am I being cynical.. Also - a few things I noticed about the data whilst messing about with it The Report does not show the total number of sitting days...

Number of students per class ( primary School) since 2000

Extracted data from the CSO to show the number of students in each year in Primary school from the year 2000

All Irish Elections results since 1922

We took all the data from the Wikipedia pages related to each Dáil ( starting on the 3rd Dáil (  June 1922 ) and going up to the 32nd Dáil ( Feb 2016 ) and only including the results of the general election ( not including changes during the Dáil through by -elections or whatever) . Popped the data into Flourish and see below
